It finally happened

The gf's German nan has been suffering with cancer for a while now, but last Thursday or Friday she had a fall and broke her hip, this in turn put her in to a coma and they operated to fix her hip when she regained conciousness but she then slipped back in to a coma and passed away Saturday 00:43 GMT+1

This weekend I had planned to catch up on my play station games as mine had broken and I had to have it replaced and lost all my saved games, so Friday night at half 9, I had a beer next to me just starting the game when the gf came in and tells me we are going to Germany as they don't think her nan was going to last, so we did a rush panic of throwing clothes in to a holdall, I pick her brother up and get home and her mum and step dad are there waiting so we can all go over together. I get our car all packed up and we head off to the channel tunnel, lucky for us this is only 5 mins away, to a very bemused worker at the tunnel we start heading down the freight lane and this chap is trying to stand in our way, luckily gf's mum works there and tells him what's happening and that it's been cleared, so we get to the terminal so tickets can be sorted out for the journey. Once on our way to the train we have to stop and we see mum getting out of the car and in tears, its the news we didn't really want, gf's nan, her mum's mum has just died. I know this is going to sound harsh but we should have turned around there and then, me the gf, her brother and our son, and gone home, I was unsure why we were going in the first place as the outlook never looked promising. We get on the train anyway and get to France at 01:00 gmt+1 and make our journey to Germany.

We get to the gf's nan's house at 05:00 GMT+1, as that was where we were going to be staying and her mum can't open the door and I know it is because she is shaking even though I can't see her and I realise it is a bad idea us staying her, to me it just doesn't feel right but we need to sleep, I have been up for nearly 24hrs now and we are all tired. We get our son ready for bed but he doesn't want to sleep in the bed and we find out the next day it was because the dolls scared him, so we go and find a hotel and leave the gf's mum and step dad at the flat. We are lucky that there is a hotel at the top of the road and we walk in and they are just preparing for the breakfast sitting and I head to the reception and ask for a room, I think that my face showed I was tired and they gave us a room there and then, no waiting till 2pm to check in and they only charged us for one night. We finally get to bed about 05:30 GMT+1, I wake at 09:00 but I think it is my body telling me that they are stopping breakfast soon and I just fall back asleep, we end up waking about 11:30.

Once woken and showered we make the small walk down to the gf's nan's flat and see the rest of the family and get some breakfast, we also decide what to do for the day, as it is nice and sunny we take our son to the park, not a little park like I am used to, this one was massive and was on the bank of the River Rhine, there are people everywhere, sun bathing playing football, badminton, volleyball and Frisbee, they are people on skates, on bikes and skateboards. People were sheltering under trees from the sun people with bbq's on the go and everyone just seems to be having fun and relaxing. We take my son to the play area where his uncle takes him on the slides, see-saw and monkey bars. We only stay for an hour or so as we didn't know it was going to be so hot and we didn't bring any sun tan lotion and we head back home. On the way there and back we are using the path but it is very wide and i had never noticed before why, well this day I did there were people cycling on it, but loads of people and it seemed as if we were in the wrong and i think we were, as I think the cyclists had the right of way, so you had me chasing my son up the road with his ben 10 backpack on, as he was on his scooter trying to get him close to the side as possible so he wouldn't cause an accident whilst trying not to get run over myself.

We cam home Sunday and luckily it only took 4hrs to get home so wasn't bad. Yesterday we had a bbq and invited the gf's step dad over as he was on his own, the trouble is it started raining but me being me stayed out and got the food cooked whilst I got soaked and listening to the thunder and watching the lightning. The funeral has been arranged for Friday, so we will be going over Thursday and coming back Saturday, bang goes another weekend but at least I can be there for my gf.

Hope everyone else had a good bank holiday
