T Minus 2 days

The weekend went very well and only on tiff really happened because of my mum staying, the rest of the time I made sure the gf was occupied or I was.

My mum took us out for dinner Friday night, just to a harvester type place, the food wasn't bad and my son had a great time as she had also brought him some Ben 10 activity books. we had a couple of glasses of wine and a coffee with the meal and it seemed to go quite well, that was until I got in. My gf was to happy about my mum coming to stay as she said it would upset my sons routine and it would tire him out to much, which I disagreed with, but as we got back a bit late Friday night, she decided she had to prove me wrong. It didn't really work as my son went straight to bed and didn't wake till about 8 the next day.

Saturday I took my son swimming and afterwards we popped to the shops and went home and played out in the garden playing swing ball and football, this tired him out a bit and after dinner near enough went straight to sleep. As my mum had been out all day Saturday I said I would eat with her, knowing she would be back a little late and that the gf and my son could eat together, which was another way around to stop the gf moaning about how late our son would be up. Mum brought back this massive fillet beef joint and that's what we had for dinner and I didn't have to cook once again, I was left with the washing up though but I didn't mind, its when i have cooked the dinner then am left to the washing up with after that bugs me sometimes but its one of those things.

On Sunday we had a lazy day at home as there wasn't much that needed doing, we me and my son played in the garden again, he loves his swingball set and is getting better with each it time which is great as he eye and hand coordination will be so much better, the gf came out a couple of times to play and to this date she still hasn't beaten me and I think it is annoying her a little but she can practice when ever she wants. Mum had been out for the day visiting my brother and her father in law who is in a care home since his wife passed away last year, he had a stroke quite a few years ago and was coping with it well, but with his wife now gone he can't do as much around the house as needed. when mum got home she had brought some burgers with her and we had a burger supper, with homemade chips and it was great, she also brought the gf some slippers and a new dressing gown as a thank you for her hospitality and to keep things sweet. Over dinner I had the usual ear bending of my smoking and why don't I give up blah blah blah and it was from both sides, so I went out for a smoke, when i got back in mum was asking me what I want for my birthday (this Friday) and I didn't have a clue, as most stuff that I need I have got and things I want I normally buy or just weigh it up if I actually need it, so yesterday I got home from work and there was a birthday card for me from my mum with a cheque for £200, bless her, so all I need to do now is bank it, withdraw it and put it in a safe place, as if I leave it in my account I may end up pissing it against the wall or just using it for day to day stuff.

Last year she gave me £300 as it was my 30th which I told her she didn't have to do, but with it I brought myself some little bits but also a new camera. So this year I would like to get something that I am going to get use out of, so any suggestions would be grateful.

Well, from just reading your header blurb, why don't you put some of it towards a gold pass or whatever the cinema is near you to have unlimited access to the cinema, to get you going again?

If I had that, I would make an effort to go each week, even if it was by myself.

Wow. £300 just for you? I think you should get something special for yourself... a cinema pass, gym membership or star trek membership (lol). And what about a nice portrait of JUST you and your son?

Hi

Thanks both for great ideas, I like the portrait idea alot, the cinema one is great, but with the hours my gf works its difficult to get out.
